What I've been putting off buying is a new base. I did just put in a Sephora order for their box of premium mascara samples that comes with a coupon to buy the one you like best, and I used a promo code that gave me a Bite amuse bouche sample lipstick in verbena, so it's not like I don't have things to look forward to :-) So I'm trying to tamp down my impulse to buy more lipstick. Probably the purchase I regret most this month is an Urban Decay lipstick in Carnal, which a) I'm not too sure I like and b) I then picked up the UD lipstick palette on sale which includes Carnal. I'm not ready to trade Sephora in for Target, but I'm trying not to go nuts. It made me realize that I have a problem with buying expensive makeup I don't finish, because every now and then I get depressed and stop wearing makeup altogether.

Nice stuff, brands like Guerlain and Makeup For Ever but I decided to be good to my skin and get rid of it. Stuff that hadn't been worn for five or so years. It cuts down on Tragic Eyeshadow Incidents caused by applying unbecoming makeup before I'm fully awake :-)Īs for what I destashed - I threw out a lot of old makeup. I've been trying to get on with Urban Decay's Naked palettes, they are so much more modern and cool, but I'm much happier now that I have a custom MAC quad stashed in my bag, the quality is higher and I like having only colors I've preselected to look good on me. I think my big discovery this month was basically that I really love MAC. Another shadow that really impressed me was Paradisco, which looks in the pan like it's going to be unwearably orange, and only for brave days, but is softly pretty once applied and makes my pale grey eyes pop with blue. Subtle, but good, ideal for a "my face but better" makeup.

I took a young friend along to the MAC store with me and when she saw the Patina pan she said " that looks so boring" but when I tried it on to see if I still liked it she said " but it looks so good". Writing here about how I wore MAC's Patina eyeshadow all through the 90s encouraged me to go and make up a custom palette there that included my old favorite, plus three zippy new goldy/coppery/oranges.
